I am constantly trying to portray the places in which time loses its strength and energy, heart ‘decelerates’ and its rate decreases, the places of melodic silence and eternal play. These are nonverbal notes of space within which we all may encounter and truly recognize ourselves. I mostly use the objects found in my surroundings, taken from the world of advertising and mass media and incorporate them into my paintings. I need all these objects because they represent the commonplace of perception. Then, I further model these objects according to my completely arbitrary plan, and my internal intuition, and with minimum of any intervention I bring new meaning to them (and even convey new meaning), perhaps even the metaphysical meaning*, to such extent that up until then, all well-known and recognizable objects lose their former purpose, meaning, and function, and thus, they become “non-objects”, essentially space and time of the mental picture, spiritual and innermost self.

Hibernation Mode >

.

In the past few years I felt as being hibernated, and I still find myself in hibernation mode.
While the war still lasted and while the protests against the war and against the notorious regime in the ex-Yugoslavia (which is Serbia today) lasted, in which I actively participated, there was some hope. Or, better still, there were some contents one could deal with. The most difficult part emerged when all allegedly ended, when coup d'état occurred and everything had a happy ending. However, several years after such “realization”, you completely understand that nothing has essentially changed so far. Moreover, the speed and intensity of the changes you have expected is almost equal to zero. At that particular moment, you face the fact that you have spent best years of your life in projecting your desires into a hopeless thing and that you have misled your mind, for you have neglected and betrayed the most important thing – your inner world and the world of your own.
When you experience this feeling, then you realize (and you even believe) that the highest degree of social commitment is actually to explain yourself to yourself, and then to try explain yourself to others. The greatest secret a man can reach is his inner self, if he succeeds in it…And, if he succeeds in it, then he will be close to others, and the others will be close to him. And look! Here one acquires both social and interpersonal commitment and understanding, and by virtue of these two one even obtains social tolerance.

I do not use the words ‘meditation’ and ‘contemplation’ because by these terms one wants to explain the inner condition which is very complex. Rather, I use the term describing the visible, external manifestation, which does not define the internal condition of mental activities. If you see a man who only partially hears what you are telling him, or seems to be uninterested in regular occurrences and is completely indifferent to them, there is a possibility that such a person is in the hibernation mode.

* Hibernate mode /comp./ -- when you "hibernate" the computer, it will make a copy of what's in its memory and save it to the hard drive. When you start it back up, it will quickly restore from this copy-- all your files, emails, and windows will be open just as they were when it went into hibernation.( source: http://www.nyu.edu/ , New York University)
